THE MIRACLE OF THE MANGER
John 1:1-5,9-14 - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it…The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (NIV)
I. ASTONISHING CLAIMS: COULD HE BE WHO HE CLAIMS TO BE?
Luke 2:11 (ESV) - For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
- 3 Options
1.His claims were TRUE.
2.He knew His claims were FALSE.
3.He sincerely believes His claims were TRUE but in reality FALSE.
- Jesus Christ is either . . .
II. STAGGERING IMPLICATIONS: WHAT IF HE IS WHO HE
CLAIMS TO BE?
III. A CRITICAL DECISION:
DO YOU BELIEVE?
Matthew 16:13-16 - "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
DO YOU BELIEVE?
"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (NIV)
2 Corinthians 5:10 - “Scripture records, For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him, for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” (NIV)
- John 1:12 - “Yet to all who received him (Jesus), to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (NIV)
